Membership update
A very quick update following our meeting around membership.
We met as a group on Wednesday 17th March to discuss how membership for YoCo might work - whether we might need to put a geographical radius on membership and what other expectations we might need to have of members.
The group discussed how different folks would have different gradients of participation in YoCo, understanding that some people will be more active than others throughout the project. We spoke about the potential of having local and associate membership - which would be based on postcode. We heard from Paul Kelly about the pros and cons of having a very localised membership base and how opening it up to a potentially international audience might not help with actively delivering the vision. We spoke about AGM’s and voting rights, and that organisations could join, but would only have one vote, as would any individual - one member, one vote.
There was a consensus that we need to make becoming a member of YoCo as straight forward and accessible as possible for people, taking into account the membership journey, from supporter through to director. We also discussed roles, about how people could join a working circle as a member, and what each of those working circles were looking to do.
We can only feasibly open membership when we have registered as a CLG which is in the process of happening. We are currently drafting the membership forms, which will be available to fill in digitally or in analogue. Once membership is open, we will notify people via our mailing list, so make sure you have your name and email signed up!
