Two Festivals for the Price of One (Free!) – YoCo Turns the Next Chapter
FREE FILM SCREENING & PUBLIC DISCUSSION, 20 JUNE 2022 , 6PM - BOOK HERE
Some of you may recall that YoCo ran an event in June 2020 as part of York Festival of Ideas, and likewise featured in World Localization Day in June 2021 (see below for a video about Yoco’s involvement last year!). As the two festivals run pretty much side by side, we took the next logical step and introduced the two teams to each other. We are delighted to report that, for the first time, we are organising an event on 20th June, as part of both York Festival of Ideas and World Localization Day. For YoCo meeting regulars, this will replace our monthly Open Meeting for June.
Aptly, the Festival of Ideas theme this year is “The Next Chapter”, and our (in real life) event forms part the “Evolving Society” section. Our session is on the 20th June at 6.00 pm, when we will be showing a new documentary “Planet Local: A Quiet Revolution” produced by World Localization Day organisers Local Futures The screening will be followed by an informal audience discussion about how we can take localization ideas forward in York Central and across the City.
Local Futures is a growing global network of thinkers and activists passionate about creating a world where local production and networks are given the space to regenerate communities in a way that cares for our environment. Their work chimes exactly with our aims at YoCo.
York Festival of Ideas runs from 11 – 24 June and World Localization Day throughout June in the run up to the main day on 21st June. We are excited to play our part in a global conversation about creating a better world, at such a turbulent and important time, and hope you will be able to get to some of the many great events at both festivals.
You can book your free place at our event here Celebrating Localization: An alternative future for York Central?, York Festival of Ideas
Places are limited so please book early. We very much look forward to seeing you on the 20th of June!
