The YoCo Community Plan for York Central
Welcome to the York Central envisaged in the YoCo Community Plan:
There is more forever-affordable housing (by preventing homes being treated as investments and ensuring the community as a whole benefits from profits)
Children are playing in the street and there is birdsong in the air (by making streets for people and activity, and parking cars on the edge of neighbourhoods)
Neighbourhoods are enabling environments (by making sure disabled people who need to drive and park close to homes, cafes and workspaces can do so)
There are start-up spaces supporting local business (by creating flexible buildings and networking support)
The streets are lively, including cafes, shared workspaces and places for community activities (by creating mixed-use neighbourhoods which is busy both day and evening)
York Central is green and wild, with spaces for growing food and spending time (by ensuring community ownership – actual ownership – of public spaces)
The Big Idea of the YoCo Community Plan – which you can see within brackets above – is to set up a social and economic structure that enables money to be distributed to where it needs to be. A place where economic activity is designed to support and enable the vibrant and diverse neighbourhoods we want to live in.
If we reorientate the economic structure of York Central, then the York Central envisaged above is possible. We show how that is possible in the YoCo Community Plan for York Central.
Feel Inspired that another York Central is possible.
