A workshop to shape ideas for YoCo’s proposed co-owned neighbourhood on the York Central site. How do we start with the local community and expertise from here and elsewhere in the city, and create a place where people really live, work, learn, and play together, and where we make the most of the connections between these varied activities?
How do we build on local ideas and enthusiasm?
What sort of economic structures enable good ideas to take root and grow?
What sort of buildings and spaces allow a really mixed-use neighbourhood to flourish?
Join us on Saturday 14th May from 1:00pm – 4:00pm at St Barnabas Church, for a workshop on growing a mixed-use neighbourhood. We’ll hear about the history of Spark:York CIC from the founders, and consider how “meanwhile use” on the York Central site can sow the seeds for a range of businesses which will drive the local economy as the site develops. We’ll have design talent in the room with architects from around the city, and we’ll shape a creative session which gets everyone thinking about key questions and how we can answer them. We have some initial funding to work up ideas for meanwhile use on York Central – so let’s decide how best to do this!
There will be refreshments, and of course, There Will be Cake!
