YoCo Labs: Hackney School of Food

As we’ve gathered to talk about our visions for York Central and looked at brilliant projects elsewhere, key themes have emerged – York Central as a place of learning at all levels – from engaging with the universities to primary age kids; the role food plays in bringing people together (whether that’s the gorgeousness of pies or the pleasures of growing and harvesting) and making outdoor space green, creative, and owned by the community. We’ve wondered how these overlap… …and then we spotted Hackney School of Food, brought from idea to reality by the wonderful Chefs In Schools in partnership with a dedicated team. Kitchen, gardens and inspiration – so join us for an online event which combines a short film about the project, presentations by key participants in the project including Head Food Educator Tom Walker, Architect Tom Surman and Polly Praill from Chefs in Schools, and a chance to discuss how their experiences might help us shape a place to grow, learn and eat on York Central.
